Proportional Reasoning (Chapter 4)
Lesson 1: Ratios (4.1)
Learning Goals of Lesson 1
By the end of this lesson, I can:
-write ratios in 3 different ways (x to y, x : y , and x/y)
-simplify ratios to the lowest terms using the greatest
common factor or the "fraction key" on a calculator
-identify part-to-part and part-to-whole ratio
-distinguish between a fraction (part/whole) and a ratio in
fraction form (part/part or whole/part)
Video 1: The Golden Ratio
Video 2: How to Write and Simplify Ratios
Video 3: Write Ratios in Three Different Forms
Video 4: Simplify Ratios to the Lowest Terms (Always!!)
Note: This is easier if your calculator has the "Fraction" key!
Video 5: What is a Part-to-Part Ratio?
Video 6: What is a Part-to-Whole Ratio? (Whole=Total)
Video 7: Identify Part-to-Part and Part-to-Whole Ratios
Video 8: Difference between Fractions and Ratios
Important: Fraction = Part-to-Whole Ratio (Denominator = Whole)
Fraction ≠ Part-to-Part Ratio
